He is interred in Southborough Rural Cemetery in Southborough, MA. His grave is marked by a large stone that was once the doorstep of his Smoke Tree Farmhouse in Southborough, MA. Warner Oland was born Johan Verner Ölund on October 3, 1879 in a rural village in Bjurholm, Sweden. At age 13 his family emigrated to the United States. After several years working in theater, he made his debut in the silent film Pilgrim's Progress. He went on to appear in 97 films and portrayed such iconic characters as Dr. Fu Manchu and Charlie Chan.
